Treetops Hospice lottery winner

Lottery rollover is won

Treetops Hospice has given away its lottery rollover prize to one lucky lady celebrating her half century today.

Mrs June Firth from Sandiacre in Derbyshire won £4,600 when her number was drawn on Friday.

June who celebrates her 50th birthday today (24 January) has been a member of the Treetops Hospice lottery since 2008. This is the most she’s ever won.

June said: “I’ve won the odd £5 before but usually give it back to the Hospice. When the lottery team rang to tell me about this win, I thought it was a wind-up; I even rang the Hospice back to check. It’s a lovely amount of money and I plan to share it with my family and give a little something back to Treetops.”

Mrs Firth will become a grandmother for the second time next month when daughter Kerri gives birth. Her first grandson is 14-month-old Ollie. Mrs Firth who lives with her partner Dave, has another daughter called Nikki.

Mel de Vos, Treetops Hospice lottery manager, said: “I am so pleased for Mrs Firth and excited that the win came just a few days before such a landmark birthday. Hopefully, this will help to make her day even more special.”

The lottery was introduced to Risley-based charity Treetops Hospice in 1996 as a way of raising money to provide care for adults with life-limiting illness. Last year alone, the lottery raised almost £100,000 for this care.

How the lottery works

Treetops Hospice lottery is drawn every Friday and costs £1 per entry. There is a guaranteed weekly prize fund of £1,350 and the prize structure is 1st prize – £1,000, 2nd prize – £200 rollover (maximum of £10,000), 3rd prize – £100 and 10 prizes of £5.

The rollover prize was last won in August 2011 when it went at £3,000. The rollover starts at £200 and for every week it’s not won, increases by £200. It must be won once it gets to £10,000. In this case, it was won at £4,600. The prize now goes back to £200.
