A HOSPICE has been boosted
by a donation of £100,000 from the estate of a Bramcote man who died in the 1980s.
Treetops
Hospice, based at Risley, has been given the money as part of the legacy of Tom Blaney, a founder member of the Bramcote Probus
Club.
Mr Blaney, who lived in Bramcote and worked for the now-defunct East Midlands Electricity,
died in his 70s in 1989.
His estate then passed to his sister but was taken over by the Stapleford
and Sandiacre Rotary Club when she died 10 years later.
The donation is the biggest in the history
of the hospice's Ripple Appeal to build a new care centre for people with life-limiting conditions.
It was pledged six years ago but since then has accrued interest and increased to £125,000.
Appeal manager Kate Shaw said Mr Blaney's investment had helped persuade grant-giving organisations to pledge
a further £100,000 towards the project.
She said: "The Rotary Club's continued
support has been key for Treetops – it has helped us demonstrate the viability of the project.
"Its
commitment has encouraged others to support with pledges of £100,000."
