TV'S DES MARKS A START TO WORK ON CARE CENTRE
07:30, 3 December 2009
TV WEATHERMAN Des Coleman was at a Derbyshire hospice
yesterday to mark the start of work on a £1m care centre.
Des joined staff, trustees and
patrons at the Treetops Hospice event and jumped on a digger to cut the first sod.
He said: "I'm
really pleased to be here at Treetops Hospice.
"From this small hole that I've dug today
a wonderful building will grow."
The building work will take six months and when completed
will enable the Risley charity to double capacity and care.
It will provide 5,000 daycare places each year.
Kate Shaw, for Treetops, said: "It's
been such a special day. It's fantastic to know that we've finally made a start on the new care centre.
"I thank everyone involved for helping us to get to this stage – Des was a real a pro on the digger!"
Chief executive George Cameron said: "This is the next step Treetops is taking in developing its service to
those who need it within Derby and Derbyshire.
"When completed, we will be able to double
the amount of people who can use our day care centre, as well as developing the range of services we can provide for them,
such as art therapy."
