On a Wednesday we offer
Complementary Therapies on a booking basis. Treatments will generally last for about an hour and are provided by a team of
qualified therapists.
We offer the following
therapies
Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy is
a gentle, slow massage using Essential Oils obtained from plants.
Familiar and memory evoking
fragrances induce deep relaxation and can improve sleep and often the most stubborn pain responds well to Aromatherapy.
If you suffer from pain,
insomnia, swelling, stress, tension, constipation or feel generally weak and tired, Aromatherapy may help you.
Reflexology
All the systems of the
body are mirrored on our hands and feet. Reflexology is the practice of massaging the feet to produce a relaxed response in
the corresponding regions of the body.
By applying controlled
pressure with the fingers on the reflex points of the feet, the body is stimulated to achieve its own state of balance an
improve general health and well being.
Reflexology is a safe,
non-invasive therapy practiced by many therapists, which can help you with problems such as stress, tension, arthritis and
back pain.
Reiki
Reiki is a Japanese work
meaning Universal Life Energy. The therapist channels this life energy through his or her hands activating the body’s
natural ability to balance itself. Reiki is a safe, non-invasive therapy and does not necessitate the removal of clothing.
Generally a pleasant sensation
of warmth and comfort is felt in the area being touched. And there is a deep sense of relaxation and well-being.
Reiki can help if you
have problems such as stress, depression, insomnia, cystitis and arthritis.
Indian Head Massage
This treatment focuses
on the upper body, back, shoulders, neck and head. It eases tense muscles, improves circulation, stimulates lymphatic drainage
and aids sleep.
It induces a state of
calm, peace and tranquillity and can help if you have problems such as stress, tension, anxiety or insomnia.
All therapies are used to complement the effect that medicines have in managing symptoms.
How do I access Complementary Therapy?
If you are 18 or over
and have a life-limiting illness, are a carer or coping with bereavement you can refer yourself to the service or ask your
GP or district nurse to do this for you. We also provide therapy for those who are receiving curative anti cancer treatments.
How much will it cost?
There is no charge for
this service. In general, we will offer you six treatments and then review, with you, the success of the treatment. You may
be offered further treatment either immediately or following a short break. For many people six weeks of therapy is enough
to reduce the major problem.
Who will I be treated by?
All the therapists at
Treetops Hospice are qualified. They have a nationally recognised qualification in the therapy they provide and will have
regularly updated their professional knowledge and skills.
Once you start a course
of therapy you will see the same therapist, occasionally, if they are on holiday for example, you might be asked to see a
different person – it is entirely up to you whether or not you do this. A lot of people prefer to have a break when
their therapist is on leave and resume treatments when they return.
