“In 2005 my wife Jackie was diagnosed with a brain tumour. After suffering a dramatic fit at our son’s home, she had a scan which revealed the size of the tumour. After an exploratory operation she started radio therapy and initially this was successful. Regrettably the tumour started to grow again and this time chemo therapy was recommended.

It was during this time that we were introduced to Treetops Hospice and Jackie started a weekly course of Reike which helped her cope with the challenging symptoms. Jackie then started coming to Treetops each Tuesday for art therapy. She really looked forward to her day at Treetops and enjoyed the company and the food!

Unfortunately in the spring of 2009 her condition started to deteriorate rapidly and days before she passed away she came to Treetops for the last time. She was always brave, rarely complained and managed to cover up her loss of communication skills with a big smile and a nod.

After her passing I received bereavement counselling from Treetops. My family and I have been very grateful for the help and support given by Treetops and have tried to give a little back. I now volunteer and my son, Dan ran the New York Marathon in aid of the hospice.
