COMPLEMENTARY THERAPY
We offer complementary therapies to adults with life-limiting illnesses and their carers. This service can also be accessed by people coping with a bereavement. Treatments will generally last for about an hour and are provided by a team of qualified therapists. All therapies are used to complement the effect medicines have in managing symptoms.
Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy is a gentle, slow massage using essential oils obtained from plants. Familiar and memory evoking fragrances induce deep relaxation and can improve sleep. Often the most stubborn pain responds well to aromatherapy. If you suffer from pain, insomnia, swelling, stress, tension, constipation or feel generally weak and tired, aromatherapy may help you.
Reflexology
All the systems of the body are mirrored on our hands and feet. Reflexology is the practice of massaging the feet to relax the corresponding regions of the body. By applying controlled pressure with the fingers on the reflex points of the feet, the body is stimulated to achieve its own state of balance and improve general health and well-being. Reflexology is a safe, non-invasive therapy practiced by many therapists, which can help you with problems such as stress, tension, arthritis and back pain.
Reiki
Reiki is a Japanese word meaning universal life energy. The therapist channels this life energy through his or her hands activating the body’s natural ability to balance itself. Reiki is a safe, non-invasive therapy and does not necessitate the removal of clothing. Generally a pleasant sensation of warmth and comfort is felt in the area being touched and there is a deep sense of relaxation and well-being. Reiki can help if you have problems such as stress, depression, insomnia, cystitis and arthritis.
Indian Head Massage
This treatment focuses on the upper body, back, shoulders, neck and head. It eases tense muscles, improves circulation, stimulates lymphatic drainage and aids sleep. It induces a state of calm, peace and tranquillity and can help if you have problems such as stress, tension, anxiety or insomnia.
Who will I be treated by?
All the therapists at Treetops Hospice are qualified. They have a nationally recognised qualification in the therapy they provide and will regularly update their professional knowledge and skills. Once you start a course of therapy you will see the same therapist. Occasionally, if they are on holiday for example, you might be asked to see a different person. It is entirely up to you whether or not you do this. A lot of people prefer to have a break when their therapist is on leave and resume treatments when they return.
How much does it cost?
There are no charges for this service but donations are gratefully appreciated and help make it possible for others to receive support in the future.
