Meet Barbara, a volunteer for 15 years, as we celebrate Volunteers' Week 2015.

“I have been a volunteer for over 15 years and to anyone who has a few hours to spare and would like to make new friends, and give something back to society I would recommend you give time to the hospice. You will find it is a very caring organisation; they help many people, and make you feel your efforts are valued.

“You get a feeling that though from a distance you are helping people and at the same time you are getting something for yourself and I think this is very important when giving your time and effort you need something back, and you certainly get this from other volunteers. The work is very varied, lots of interesting and different things to do, it is not just serving customers; there are many other jobs, in fact something to suit everyone.

“I have had many wonderful years, made lots of new friends who you can really rely on, remember, these people are like yourself, they want to help others and will support you. They have all got caring natures. We have lots of laughs; it’s like a happy family. We also get to know our customers who at times need our support by just listening. I can certainly recommend it, without it, my life would be so dull.”

If you are interested in volunteering with us at one of our shops please visit your local hospice shop and speak to the manager.
