Mary Shore, catering manager at Treetops Hospice Care, said: “This time last year we were waiting in anticipation and excitement as we’d put in a bid to run the catering at Nottingham Crown Court. Then one Friday evening in December I took the call to say that we’d been successful and that the courts would like the catering to start on 5th January.
“At this time we already ran the catering in the coffee bar at Nottingham Magistrates Court. We therefore had some wonderful and experienced volunteers who, in true Treetops Hospice Care style, were happy to lend a hand to clean the kitchen and restaurant area and gave us a fighting chance to open on time.
“Those first few weeks were challenging, but we now have two paid members of staff and a small team of volunteers who enjoy the work they do.”
As the catering service grows in popularity with staff and visitors to the Crown Court, more volunteers are being recruited to join the team.
Volunteering offers the chance for work experience, training, and the chance to make life-long friends whilst doing something worthwhile for a local charity. Various shifts are available.Read the task description
