Have a look at the list of current volunteer vacancies, find one that you like, then phone or email us.

Where do I start?

Have a look at the list of current vacancies and see what catches your eye.  The best thing is to find one you like, then phone or contact us.

If you’re interested in volunteering in one of our shops, phone or call in to the shop to speak to the manager.

If nothing on the list appeals to you, or if you’ve got something else in mind, phone the Volunteer Services team on 0115 949 1264 and we can discuss it with you.

Is there an application form?

Yes. Anyone applying for a volunteer position will need to fill in an application form and undergo an informal interview. Application forms will be issued at the interview stage.

What skills or qualifications do I need?

The most important qualification is to be interested in people of all ages and backgrounds. You must also have an openness to their differences and individual needs. Some volunteer roles will need extra qualifications such as a driving licence and/or a DBS application (Disclosure and Barring Service). Volunteers must be at least 16 years old (dependent upon the volunteer role) but we have no upper age limit.

Will I get training?

Certain mandatory training is relevant for all volunteer roles. Depending on the role, you will be asked to attend manual handling, fire awareness and/or food hygiene training. This will be arranged in-house and dates and times will be communicated.

How much time do I need to give?

You can give a couple of hours occasionally or a few hours a week, depending on when you are available and what you want to do.
