Tea for Treetops takes place from Monday 3 to Sunday 9 July with tea party proceeds donated to the hospice. Treetops Hospice Care, based in Risley, provides nursing care and emotional support for adults with life-limiting illnesses, their families and carers.
Last year, Tea for Treetops parties raised over £7,000 for the hospice. To help promote the event, Treetops invited previous hosts to put their feet up and enjoy cake, sandwiches and Pimms at their own tea party at the hospice on Saturday 24 June.
As well as the Hospice at Home nursing care she received, I know how valuable the helpline was to me
Amongst those enjoying the afternoon tea were Jane Sheppard, her niece Sue Spence and their family. Jane’s sister was supported with specialist nursing care at home and Jane and Sue have both been strong supporters of the local hospice ever since. Jane said:
“As a family we have tried to support the hospice since we received help when my sister, Betty Murfin was ill.
“As well as the Hospice at Home nursing care she received, I know how valuable the helpline was to me, and how a couple of times just talking to someone not personally involved helped me find the clarity of mind to deal with an issue.”
Members of the Long Eaton Inner Wheel, including current president Alison Bowman, were also present and plan to hold a tea party for Treetops as their chosen charity of the year.
Raising money for a really great cause
Mary Rose, community fundraiser said:
“It’s been lovely to see so many of our previous hosts here today and for us to treat them as a thank you for their amazing support.
“Tea for Treetops is a wonderful social, summer event – a chance to invite your friends, family, pupils, visitors and customers to a piece of cake, a cup of tea and know you’re raising money for a really great cause at the same time.”
All those who register to hold a Tea for Treetops tea party receive a free fundraising pack. Registration can be made online or by calling 0115 949 1264.
