On Friday 29 March, the winners of Treetops Lottery annual Super Draw will be announced and it is hoped that over £15,000 has been raised for the local hospice.

Since the Treetops Lottery began over twenty years ago, it has raised over £4million for the local charity which provides nursing care and emotional support for adults, their families and carers across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.

In addition to nursing care in patients own homes and counselling services, the hospice has recently launched a new Wellbeing Service, supporting people to maintain their physical and emotional health. The Service includes new Spa Days for those find it difficult to have a proper bath or shower at home.

It’s hard to describe to someone who’s able-bodied how much a bath means

The assisted bathing means that guests can feel relaxed and refreshed, as recent Spa Day client, Jo, explained:

“It’s hard to describe to someone who’s able-bodied how much a bath means to you.

“At home I have a wet room so I am nice and clean, but a bath is more than just getting clean, it’s relaxing. I used to spend nearly every night in the bath – it used to be part of my routine – but since I got poorly five years ago, not being able to get in and have a bath has been awful.

It makes you feel human and I feel safe

“There’s help to get in the bath so I’m not using all my energy to get in or back out. There’s plenty of privacy and the staff are brilliant at maintaining your dignity. They will only do what you want them to do so there’s no taking your independence away.

“The room isn’t bright like a hospital room. It’s dim, there’s lights and music playing – and a Jacuzzi setting to help with circulation. It’s like going to a spa – it makes you feel human and I feel safe.  I know the staff are around if I need them but I can be left alone to soak in the water and just relax.”

A fun and easy way to help support the hospice’s services

The Super Draw is always a special event in the Treetops Lottery calendar and it’s a real win-win for everyone as Catherine Thorne, lottery marketing coordinator explained:

“It’s wonderful to present the lucky players with their winnings as well as know that they have helped to raise a considerable amount of funding for the hospice.

“There’s still time for people to get involved and buy their tickets. Last year’s Super Draw raised over £16,000 and it would be great to beat this.

“Playing the Treetops Super Draw is a fun and easy way to help support the hospice’s services. The funds raised are vital for the charity to continue caring for people in the local community when they need us the most and who knows, you might just have a lucky spring win too!”

Last year’s jackpot winner of £2000 was Mr Hill from Ilkeston, pictured left:

“I went into shock! I have had a go on a lot of charity raffles and I’ve never won. This was the first time and it was amazing!”
