Nurses from Derbyshire charity, Treetops Hospice Care, are searching for superheroes to sign up to this summer’s biggest fundraising event - KAPOW!

KAPOW! – the county’s biggest inflatable obstacle course – takes place on Sunday 1 September at Markeaton Park. Participants are invited to become superheroes for the day and take on the ten, giant inflatables along the exciting 5km course – either solo or as part of a team.

Treetops supports adults with life limiting conditions living in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire. All services are provided free of charge and include Hospice at Home nurses who care for patients at the end of life in their own homes.

We don’t just look after a patient, but we support their wider family too

Liz Docker, from Ashbourne, has been a Hospice at Home nurse for over ten years. She explained more:

“The Hospice at Home service at Treetops is the largest service we offer, giving one to one care to people overnight or during the day at home, in their last few months and weeks of life.

“Nights can be more difficult for families – nobody can keep caring 24 hours a day. The nurses arrive at the house and get to know the patient, get to know the family – and then the family can go and get a good night’s sleep and we do everything that’s needed during the night.

“For the families we support, it’s a big relief that they are not doing it on their own anymore. We don’t just look after a patient, but we support their wider family too.

“It’s a special role. We have to be able to build a rapport with the family within those first few moments after we arrive – and build the trust that we will look after the most precious person in their life.”

See the summer out in style!

Treetops events fundraising lead, Lorraine Ray, is urging people to sign up before the Early Bird closes on Wednesday 26 June:

“There’s just two days left to grab yourself an early bird ticket at a discounted rate to join us on KAPOW! It’s a fun and exciting challenge for adults and children alike.

“We can’t wait to see everyone having lots of fun on our giant inflatables. Events like this are a great way to raise funds so we can continue to help local people and their families when they need it most.

“It’s a great way to see the summer out in style!”

The Stairs of Doom, the Mangle, a 12m long Holy Cow Maze, the Transformer and a foam station are amongst the challenges that adults and children can run, jog or walk around.

The fun-filled, sponsored event – the only event of its kind taking place in the East Midlands this summer – will raise vital funds for Treetops Hospice Care which provides nursing care and emotional support for adults with life limiting conditions living in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.

KAPOW! is being sponsored by Western Power Distribution plc.

Early bird tickets are available until Wednesday 26 June: adults £20, children £15 and groups of four £60. Ticket prices increase after this time.

Treetops services include Support and Information, Wellbeing Space, Hospice at Home nurses and Therapeutic Services including counselling, art therapy and complementary therapy.
