Starlight Strut 2017

Hundreds of women strutted their stuff through Derby city centre on Friday 19 May to raise money for local charity Treetops Hospice Care.

Starlight StrutIt is anticipated that over £50,000 has been raised in sponsorship on the ladies-only Starlight Strut, now in its eighth year.

Treetops provides nursing care and emotional support for adults, their families and carers across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.

The 5k and 10k walk started at the University at Derby at 10pm, the same time that Treetops Hospice at Home nurses begin their shifts supporting patients in their homes.

My way of showing my gratitude to Treetops

Amongst those taking part was Jackie Bestwick, 54, from Heanor whose mum is receiving Hospice at Home care from Treetops:

“Until I needed this service, I didn’t realise just what help and support is available and it’s been tremendous.

“As well as caring for my mum, they are so supportive to me. They call each week to arrange cover and always ask me how I’m feeling.

“It’s such a difficult time and I could cry with relief as I’m so worried about mum. When you love someone who is so ill and you are trying to juggle work, family and everything else, it is so stressful – they have all been amazing and really helped me.

“This is the first time I’ve taken part on the Starlight Strut and it’s my way of showing my gratitude to Treetops. I can’t thank them enough.”

Andy's AngelsHelped to raise an amazing amount of money

Mary Rose, Treetops senior community and events fundraiser, was delighted with the success of the night:

“Wow – what a night! Thank you so much to each and every one of the ladies who’ve come along tonight and supported us.

“They’ve been coming back from the walk with big smiles on their faces so we know they’ve had a great night and they’ve helped to raise an amazing amount of money which makes such a difference to Treetops – thank you everyone!

“It’s not too late to show support for everyone who’s taken part. People can still donate to the hospice by texting TTSS17 and the amount they want to donate to 70070. Every donation, no matter how big or small, would be fantastic.”

Those inspired by the sponsored event can register for the Treetops Colour Rush taking place on Sunday 16 July at Markeaton Park as part of a Family Fun Day.
