Older people sitting on chairs doing arm exercises

Virtual Chair-based exercise sessions for those with a life-limiting condition.

Chair-based exercise is effective in maintaining or promoting independence and mobility.

Treetops patients have really enjoyed taking part in our weekly Chair-based Exercises when spending time in our Wellbeing Space, so being able to offer this out again via Zoom is an exciting opportunity.

The virtual sessions will take place Mondays 1-2pm and Wednesdays 11am-12 noon

What will the session look like?

The class will start with a general catch up and a Question and Answer session, before moving on to the safety points.

Patients will be shown how to sit on the chair correctly whilst exercising and shown positions to use if they become tired and need a rest between exercises.

A second member of Treetops staff will be present to ensure patient’s safety is monitored and demonstrate the exercises from a different angle. At the end of the session there will be a warm down.

Patients will be advised to have a drink of water ready for when the exercise class has finished. Time will be made available at the end of the session for any questions.

How can I take part?

For more information or to book onto a Chair-based Exercise session, please contact the Wellbeing Space Team on 0115 949 1264 or email wellbeing@treetopshospice.org.uk

All patients will be asked to complete a PAR-Q form about their health to ensure they are suitable to take part in the sessions.

Information regarding safety and what they need will be posted out before the exercise classes begin. For patients to access Zoom sessions, a recurring meeting invite will be sent to them and this will enable them to join the group.
