Treetops, based in Risley, provides nursing care and emotional support for adults in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, with illnesses such as cancer, motor neurone disease, heart failure and respiratory conditions. It also supports their carers and families.
The team joined over 500 other Starlight Strutters in June at intu Derby to complete the 10k sponsored walk, enjoying carnival drummers, warm up, DJ and disco. The Starlight Strut was Treetops tenth annual night walk.
A fantastic event
Sawley Slimming World team leader, Jo Thompson, said:
“This is the second year running we’ve taken part as a group, since I took over the Sawley Slimming World group and it’s a fantastic event!
“There’s a great atmosphere when you arrive at intu Derby for registration and the staff and volunteers from Treetops are wonderful at spurring you on along the way, not to mention the amazing drummers that you can hear as you approach the halfway mark and the end.
“For us, the walk is a way of doing something good as well as bonding the group and promoting being healthier – something we actively promote as part of the Slimming World message.
“I thoroughly recommend it as an event to get involved in, whatever your ability. I’m sure this won’t be the last you’ve seen of the Sawley Slimming World group either!”
Those inspired by the sponsored event can now register for Treetops next big, signature event, KAPOW! – an inflatable obstacle course taking place on Sunday 1 September at Markeaton Park.
Treetops services include Support and Information, Wellbeing Space, Hospice at Home nurses and Therapeutic Services including counselling, art therapy and complementary therapy.
