An enormous £5782 has been raised for local charity Treetops Hospice Care in a scheme to collect and recycle old Christmas trees.

435 Christmas trees – over 10 tonnes – were collected from across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire in the Treetops Treecycling scheme. Collections were made in return for a donation towards the hospice which provides nursing care and emotional support for adults and their families.

A huge thanks to everyone who’s been involved

The scheme has grown in popularity every year as Laura McWha, corporate partnerships fundraiser explained:

“This is the fourth year of Treecycling and every year the number of trees collected – and the donations we receive – goes up.

“This year, we’ve been able to expand the postcode areas where we’re collecting trees from as once again we’ve had amazing support from Ward Recycling who recycled the trees at their depots.

“We’ve had wonderful volunteers helping us from Treetops, TSB, Virgin Media, Dains Accountants, and Enterprise Rent-A-Car – we really couldn’t do this without all their help.

“We want to say a huge thanks to everyone who’s been involved. We’re looking forward to building the Treecycling service up to be even bigger and more successful next year!”

A very happy partnership with the hospice

The total raised through Treecycling included a £1000 donation from Enterprise Rent-A- Car as Ben Boot, vehicle acquisitions manager for East Midlands and East Anglia, explained:

“We were extremely proud to be involved with Treetops Treecycling project again for 2019. We have enjoyed a very happy partnership with the hospice for more than five years.

“Our long-standing support for Treetops is partly because our staff members have close ties with the charity, as they have provided care and emotional support to many of our employees’ families and friends. The hospice relies on volunteers and donations and we are incredibly pleased to help them continue to carry out the vital work that they do.”

Raising much needed funds, while encouraging people to recycle

Donald Ward, head of technical and recycling at Ward added:

“Treetops provides fantastic care and support for many families in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire and as a local, family run business we were pleased to be able to support the Christmas Treecycling scheme again this year.

“By working together, Ward is able to support Treetops in raising much needed funds, while encouraging people to recycle.”
