Money raised through the charity shop supports Treetops Hospice Care which provides nursing care and emotional support for adults, their families and carers across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire free of charge.
Amongst Treetops services is a new weekly Wellbeing Café which welcomes adults with a life-limiting condition, or who’ve been bereaved, their families and friends. Treetops staff and volunteers are available to chat and offer advice and information informally, whilst visitors enjoy tea, coffee and homemade cake.
“I will leave today feeling a little more able to cope than I did when I arrived”
“It’s nice to be treated normally here. When people are ill, others tend to treat you differently when that’s not what you need. It’s helped me and come at the right time”
“At my first visit, I was made very welcome. It’s so peaceful and lovely with calming music. I had a coffee and some cake. The amazing compassionate staff made time to chat and saved my sanity today when I am feeling so overwhelmed with grief. I will leave today feeling a little more able to cope than I did when I arrived.”
“We couldn’t run the shop without volunteer help”
Debbie Lockwood, Allenton shop manager explained that volunteer support is vital to the shop:
“We couldn’t run the shop without volunteer help as we’re very busy and there’s always a job to do. We just need a few extra hands!
“We’re a friendly, happy team and there’s a lovely atmosphere in the shop so we’d encourage anyone to give volunteering a go.”
“You’ll get more back than you think!”
Deb Thomson, assistant manager, added:
“Volunteering is a great way to get out and do good at the same time. You can learn new skills and there’s the social side too – seeing lots of people, talking to customers. You’ll get more back than you think!”
Those interested in volunteering for Treetops at the Allenton shop – or at any of the other Treetops charity shops – should contact the Volunteer Services team on 0115 949 1264 – email@example.com – or pop into the shop for more information. No experience is necessary as 1-2-1 training is given.
