Treetops Lottery was delighted to present Mrs Christine Porter with a cheque for £10,000 when she won the recent jackpot rollover prize.

Christine, 47, from Long Eaton only started playing the Treetops Lottery earlier this year as she explained:

I never in a million years thought I’d win it

“I joined up in February this year, so only a few months ago really. I was in my local GP practice and the Treetops Lottery lady stopped me. I was aware of Treetops before but never had any family or friends come here.

“I thought a pound a week was fine, it’s great cause, so let’s do it.

“When I pledged my weekly money, I never in a million years thought I’d win it and when I got the call from Treetops I just couldn’t believe it. It’s fabulous!”

Treetops Hospice Care provides nursing care and emotional support for adults across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire diagnosed with a life limiting illness and their families and carers. The hospice lottery has been running since 1996, raising over £4million from the weekly draw for the hospice during this time.

The weekly lottery rollover prize increases by £200 each week that it’s not won. When it reaches £10,000, it is guaranteed to be won.

Christine has never won anything previously:

“I never, ever expected to win anything but I bought some extra tickets for the rollover week online – I just thought let’s go for it and never thought anything more of it. It was very easy!

“When I heard, I rang my husband straight away and said you’ll never, ever believe what’s happened – it’s really good! He was stunned.

The money goes to such a good cause

Christine encourages others to sign up and take part:

“Just have a go! You might win! The money goes to such a good cause as well so even if you don’t win, you know you’ve contributed to something that’s really important.”

Christine plans to take her children and grandchildren on a family holiday later this year as well as do up her garden and keep some for a rainy day!

Rebecca Lee-Jones, sales & marketing assistant at Treetops Lottery said:

“We are thrilled for Christine and it was incredibly exciting to hand over the winning cheque.

“It costs just £1 to play the Treetops Lottery and there are also 12 other cash prizes up for grabs every week. Tickets can also be purchased from any of the Treetops retail shops or from the main hospice reception.

“Playing the Treetops Lottery is a fun way to support the hospice. All proceeds go to the hospice and the lottery provides a steady source of income that the hospice can rely on to provide its services to those that need it in the local community.”

Those interested in the Treetops Lottery can join online.  Players must be aged 16 and over.

Treetops services include Support and Information, a Day Care Unit, Hospice at Home nurses and Therapeutic Services including counselling, art therapy and complementary therapy.
