Women's Cricket Team support Starlight Strut

The Derbyshire 1st Women’s Cricket team are amongst the latest in a whole host of supporters who are helping local charity Treetops Hospice Care to promote its annual sponsored ladies-only walk – the Starlight Strut.

The Starlight Strut, formerly known as the Moonlight Walk, is taking place on Friday 19 May and attracts hundreds of women to walk a 5k and 10k route through Derby city at night, raising thousands of pounds for the hospice.

Members of the Women’s Cricket Team took time out of their regular training to pose in the newly re-branded Starlight Strut t-shirts and be filmed for the hospice’s Facebook and YouTube pages.

Treetops, which provides nursing care and emotional support for adults, their families and carers across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire is hoping to encourage over 750 women to take part in the event, now in its eighth year.

He really looked forward to going each week

Amongst those taking part in the Starlight Strut is Lynne Armstrong from Ilkeston, whose late father attended the Treetops Day Care Service based in Risley:

“My dad, Charles, came to Treetops for a while with end-stage Parkinson’s Disease and the Day Care team really looked after him.

“He really enjoyed it and you could tell he was a lot happier there. He liked the people and joined in with activities when he could. Dad loved gardening and enjoyed looking out of the big windows into the lovely grounds – he really looked forward to going each week.

I didn’t know what to expect but it was really lovely

“After he passed away, we came to visit Treetops to thank the staff for looking after him. I didn’t know what to expect but it was really lovely and I could see why dad liked it so much.

“It’s the first time we’re doing the Starlight Strut this year – me and my daughter – and we’re looking forward to it.”

Come and join us for an incredible evening

Head of fundraising, Jennifer Sheehy, explained how important the event is for the hospice:

“We provide all our services for free to the local community and we need to raise over £3 million each year to do so.

“Every penny raised for the charity makes a big difference so come and join us for an incredible evening and help us to support even more people in the future.”
