Midlands-based contractor, GF Tomlinson has provided us with vital support at our charity shop in Sandiacre.

G F Tomlinson provided essential repairs to ensure the condition of the building was fit for purpose.

Vital work on our charity shop

They sourced competitive quotes from specialist sub-contractors and scheduled works to ensure the shop and on-site offices could remain open as much as possible.

The internal and external work required was overseen by one of G F Tomlinson’s Site Managers.

The support is part of G F Tomlinson’s Local Communities Partnership Programme. In addition to the vital work on our Sandiacre shop,  the partnership provided designs and budget advice for improvements to our grounds in Risley. Partners also provided professional services for structural assessments, designs and costings to help improve working areas on site.

Overall, during the year-long partnership with the hospice, G F Tomlinson and partners provided over 325 hours of time and expertise.

The professional support equates to £54,000 and is the equivalent cost for us to do one of the following:

  • Provide almost 8 weeks of end-of-life nursing care for patients who wish to die in their own home
  • Enable our Roaming Nurse Service to respond to 790 calls for help from families during the night
  • Provide counselling for more than 130 children when they are struggling after the death of a loved one

Hugely grateful to G F Tomlinson

Vanessa Beadsworth, Sandiacre shop manager, said:

“The shop had needed repairs for some time – particularly when it came to areas that were prone to leaks, which risked damaging stock, impacting on opening hours or disrupting the customer experience. It is wonderful that the building is now completely watertight.

“The new rear door has improved access to deliveries and recycling collections. This minimises the impact on staff, volunteers, and shoppers.

We are hugely grateful to G F Tomlinson and their team for coordinating the project. They ensured that interruption to our trading and opening times was kept to the bare minimum.

“The building looks fantastic now and we’re so pleased to be able to welcome customers to what feels like a completely new shop!”

Chris Flint, managing director at G F Tomlinson, said:

Charity shops raise vital funds for Treetops

“Charity shops exist to raise vital funds for the hospice. They increase awareness of their services among the community and provide an important resource for local residents.

It is important to help Treetops maintain these buildings so they can continue trading and provide staff, volunteers and customers with a safe and comfortable environment.

"The Sandiacre shop is located in a busy area of the town and is clearly well-loved and well supported by the community. Thanks to initiatives like our Local Communities Partnership Programme, we are able to help deliver vital projects like this which make a real difference to the lives of local people.

“We are proud of our continuing partnership with Treetops Hospice and everything we have achieved for them with our partners, Arc Partnership and Perfect Circle, and our supply chain.”
