Derbyshire Social Care Online Training
Treetops Hospice is offering a series of online end-of-life care education sessions, specifically designed for social care workers, including care home staff and domiciliary care workers.
All sessions are delivered at a Tier 1 level.
Our training is focused on improving confidence and skills in delivering compassionate, high-quality end-of-life care. Each session is led by experienced facilitators and offers practical guidance, open discussion, and support.
Cost
The cost is £10 per person per session.
Who Should Attend?
- Care home staff (all levels).
- Domiciliary care workers.
- Other social care staff who support people at the end-of-life.

Treetops Hospice is a registered charity. It costs over £5.7 million a year to keep our doors open, but we only get a little funding from government bodies, roughly 18%. The rest of our funding comes from supporters.
Our Courses
This session is aimed at anyone working in health and social care environments.
Aims and objectives of the course:
- To increase knowledge around end-of-life care.
- To understand why recognising dying is important.
- To be able to recognise early signs of deterioration.
- To recognise the signs and symptoms of a resident nearing the end-of-life.
- To explore the possible causes of these symptoms.
- To explore the management of symptoms at the end-of-life, including the awareness of anticipatory medication and non-drug measures.
- To locate the guidance, resources and support available relating to management of end-of-life care.
- This course will contribute three hours of CPD.

- Discuss how ethics play a role in the care that we provide.
- Consider how our personal morals influence our decision making.
- Understand the impact of moral distress on residents, relatives and staff.
- Explore some of the common ethical dilemmas we experience in end-of-life care.

- To improve knowledge of mouth care at end-of-life.
- To recognise common conditions that can affect the mouth and how to seek treatment and support.
- To identify tools used to provide effective mouthcare.
- Apply knowledge into practice through discussion and care plan development.
- To know where to access support, resources and guidance.

- To learn what a syringe driver is.
- To discuss the indications for syringe drivers in end-of-life care.
- To explore common symptoms which are experienced at end-of-life, and how to recognise these.
- Learn what to expect when caring for a patient with a syringe driver.
- Recognise when there is an issue and when to call for support.
- Locate guidance, resources and where to seek support.
