Our Moonlight Walk returns to Derby Market Hall and we want YOU to join us!
Taking place on Friday 18 September (5-10pm), this year’s Moonlight Walk will see hundreds of supporters sparkle as they walk in memory of loved ones, with family and friends, brightening up the Derby night, on our special route… and you could join them.
By taking on either the 5K or 10K, fully-marshalled route, and fundraising for your local hospice, you’ll help Treetops provide nursing care, palliative care and emotional support for adults and their families in central and southern Derbyshire.
Whether you’re walking to support Treetops Hospice or in memory of someone special, every step you take will help make a difference.
Doors open at 5pm and we’ll kick the night off in style with accessory stalls and plenty of entertainment, before the official warm-up ahead of the walks starting at 630pm. As you walk the route and reach Derby Cathedral, there will be an opportunity to light a candle in memory of someone special.

Why Your Fundraising Matters:
Every step you take and pound you raise helps local people living with life-limiting illnesses receive the care they deserve.
We suggest you raise a minimum of £50 per person in sponsorship. This could help a patient receive four hours of end-of-life nursing care, in the comfort of their own home.
With your help, we want to raise £53,000 in sponsorship from this event which could provide over 490 local people living with a life-limiting illness, who have chosen to die in their own home, receive a night of Hospice at Home nursing care.

FAQs for Moonlight Walk 2026
The Moonlight Walk (previously known as The Starlight Strut) is a sponsored nighttime walk in aid of Treetops Hospice. For 2026, participants can choose either a 5k or a 10k route around Derby city centre. Your entry fee includes an official Moonlight Walk t-shirt, finishers medal and on the night entertainment.
The walk is open to everyone. You can walk by yourself, with family and friends, or as part of a work team.
We advise the minimum age of participants is 13 years old, but ultimately it is down to the parent or guardian as to whether they think the child is competent to walk 10k. Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult who is also entered the event and will take full responsibility for them. The route is pushchair friendly, but there may be areas of uneven ground.
Yes, we ask for you to raise sponsorship or donate in addition to the entry fee. You are welcome to take part in the walk no matter how much you raise. There is no minimum amount, but we hope everyone will try to raise at least £48 as this will help to fund four hours of hospice at home nursing care.
You will receive an email from Enthuse when registering, which will guide you setting up a fundraising page. Please check your junk folder if you don’t receive this.
You can collect your t-shirt and walker number before the walk starts (between 5pm and 6pm) at Derby Market Hall. If you wish to receive them beforehand, please pay postage and packaging and we will post them out to you. Unfortunately, we will not be able to post anything out after Friday 14 August 2026.
If possible, please let us know ahead of time if you can’t make it to the event. Unfortunately, we cannot offer refunds on registrations The Moonlight Walk is our biggest event and costly to organise. If you don’t use your place, your registration fee will be treated as a donation to the hospice.
Regrettably not, place is non transferrable and cannot be passed to anyone else.
We cannot pay the sponsorship money back to you, but if your sponsors contact us, we will be able to arrange a refund to them. We are grateful that in these circumstances most people allow us to keep their sponsorship.
Everything you need to know including the event programme will be emailed out to you as part of the pre-event pack two weeks before the event.
Please check your junk folder if you don’t receive this.
The event will officially finish once the last walkers have crossed the finish line, but you are free to leave as soon as you have signed out. You should allow at least 90-120 minutes to complete the 10k course depending on your walking speed.
Both the 5k and 10k routes are on public footpaths and we have planned a route that contains no steps, however there will be some road crossings, kerbs and parts of uneven ground.
If you have any questions, please contact us at: moonlightwalk@treetops.org.uk
his is a free spectator event, and you are more than welcome to bring your supporters to cheer you on along the route. Due to capacity, we regret that they will not have access to the venue.
Why not encourage them to be one of our official volunteers? They can sign up to volunteer at the Moonlight Walk via our website.
As much as we love dogs, regrettably, we cannot include dogs in the Moonlight Walk other than assistance dogs.
Yes. We ask you to stop at a marshal point and inform them you are leaving the event. If you are injured and unwell, please stop in a safe place on route and ask a fellow walker to inform the next marshal so they can arrange medical assistance for you.
This year’s route goes past the starting venue at the 5k point – if you have signed up for the 10k but can’t continue past this point, please head back to the venue and let us know.
