Crafting the future of hospice care

Download our new three-year strategy

As one of the UK’s largest non-bedded hospices, we’re delighted to share an important milestone with you… the launch of our new three‑year strategy, Crafting the Future of Hospice Care.

This plan will help us expand our specialist community-based end-of-life care for people across central and southern Derbyshire.

Demand for end-of-life care is rising, and pressure on both bedded hospices and NHS services continues to grow. Our new strategy sets out a clear and sustainable way for our non-bedded model to support local health and care systems, while ensuring people receive the compassionate, expert care they deserve.

Over the next three years, we will strengthen and develop our clinical services by:

  • Evolving our Hospice at Home service into a 24/7 operational model
  • Enhancing our specialist expertise, enabling us to reach more patients
  • Deepening our collaboration with NHS and social care partners

Our approach is designed to complement the evolving hospice landscape offering a modern, financially sustainable model that aligns with patient preferences and supports long-term resilience.

Philippa Shreeve, our Director of Clinical Services, explains:

“Our approach prioritises helping people plan ahead for their care, supporting complex cases and stepping in quickly to provide our expertise when someone is in crisis.

“Providing more care in the community is vital. It helps people stay at home if that’s what they want, and it supports the wider health system to manage demand.”

We see and certainly believe that the world around us is changing, and that will have an impact on what the future of hospice care looks like. The changing financial environment, the increasing financial sustainability, questions placed against large bedded hospices, the NHS ten year plan and people’s preferred place of death being at home or in the place they call home are all calling for changes we believe in how hospice care is delivered.

So therefore Treetops are purposefully saying that we’re crafting the future of hospice care, and our strategy is delivered by strategic intent to grow our services, increase our impact and our expertise upon a specialist palliative and end-of-life care in the community.
